Midnight Mesa Loop
A series of trails in the Mazatzal Wilderness circle around Midnight Mesa, forming a challenging 36 mile adventure over a wide range of elevation differences. Some people do this as a day hike - and I tried as well, during Labor Day weekend of 2018. Some day hikes don’t end with the sunset, though, and this one led to an unplanned bivouac huddled in an old mining pit deep in the center of the wilderness.
